Trial Run with the Kitchen Sink

Never carried spare tyres on a motorcycle before, but this trip calls for sharper rubber than I’ll have after the slog down to the alps, so it makes sense to bring a fresh pair along and finish off the present set on the autoroute. I hope the method I’ve chosen is going to work out – certainly can’t see an easier way of doing it.

I didn’t want to rest the tyres on the panniers as they’re loaded enough on their own, so I placed a support bar across the rear of the bike where the pillion seat would be, and held it in place against the grab rails with a couple of bungees. The tyres sit on the support bar held in place with yet more bungees, with the rolled up sleeping bag and tent stopping them from slipping backwards over the topbox.
